A 52-year-old Olympia man has been booked into jail after he allegedly pointed a loaded pistol at his 48-year-old girlfriend during an argument at his residence, according to a report by a Thurston County Sheriff’s deputy.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 17th. Deputies were summoned to the man’s residence, at the Riverside Manor Apartments on Old Pacific Hwy SE, when 911 dispatchers received a call of a possible domestic disturbance around 3:15 am.

The 911 call was described as an open line, with dispatchers able to hear what was going on in the background. The female victim was overheard saying that a male, later identified as her boyfriend, had threatened her with a gun.

When deputies arrived at the residence, they challenged the male suspect and took him into custody. A 9mm Ruger Hi-Point pistol was found in the front pocket of the suspect’s pants. It was found to have a round in the chamber and six additional rounds in the magazine.

The argument allegedly originated when the male suspect awoke to find his girlfriend on the phone with her ex-boyfriend. He told his girlfriend to leave, and when she refused, he retrieved the gun from his bedroom and pointed it at her head or torso. The victim told deputies that she believed the gun was loaded and was in fear for her life.

The man was booked into the Thurston County Jail on Saturday on suspicion of 1st degree domestic violence assault. At the time this article was published on Tuesday evening, the suspect had already been released from jail. It is unclear if he posted bail or was released for another reason.

Another 2019 Officer of the Year honoree is being recognized this week in Thurston County, this time it’s Tumwater Police Officer Jacob Rodriguez.

Officer Rodriguez was hired by the Tumwater Police Department in 2015. He is a 7-year Army veteran and former EMT. He is a field training officer, Firearms Instructor, and member of the Thurston County SWAT Team, according to a Facebook post by the TPD.

Officer Rodriguez “was recognized for his proactive approach to police work and his dedication to our training program” the Department wrote on Monday.

Tumwater Police cancelled the ceremony to honor Officer Rodriguez due to COVID-19 restrictions. He was voted the winner of the award by his fellow officers earlier this year.

A suspect is in custody after they allegedly shined a laser at a Washington State Patrol aircraft while they were searching for a missing/endangered elderly man in Tumwater earlier this week.

Tumwater Police requested the WSP aircraft “Smokey” to assist in the search for 75-year-old Barrett Patterson, who has dementia. Patterson walked away from his adult family home in Tumwater on Thursday afternoon, according to TPD.

Shortly after the aircraft arrived over Tumwater to assist in the search, the State Troopers in the plane overhead reported that someone was shining a laser at them from the area of Trosper Rd and Schoth Rd SW, according to scanner traffic.

KOMO News reported Saturday that a suspect has been arrested for the incident, however we did not locate anyone on the jail roster in Thurston County with matching charges. The unlawful discharge of a laser is a felony in Washington, and the person responsible will likely be in trouble with the Federal Aviation Administration also.

Mr. Patterson was located alive by Search and Rescue officials the next morning. He was treated for mild hypothermia, according to the City of Tumwater.
