One in custody after short pursuit through Tumwater neighborhood

Tumwater Police took a man into custody early Tuesday morning after he attempted to lead officers on a pursuit through a residential neighborhood, according to scanner traffic.

Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, a 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, around 3:00 am near 69th Ave and Riverdale St, in the Munn Lake area of Tumwater. The vehicle immediately picked up speed and ran several stop signs, in an apparent attempt to elude officers.

Unfortunately for him, the vehicle suffered a mechanical issue, officers said, and it came to a stop in the 7100 block of Desperado Dr SE. The driver was cooperative and had his hands in the air.

The 36-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of felony Eluding a Police Vehicle. Records show that he also had warrants for domestic violence assault and a protection order violation. He is being held in the Thurston County Jail.
