The Great Washington Shakeout, the state’s annual earthquake drill that occurs each October, will occur this Thursday, October 15th, at 10:15 am.
Normally, schools and offices of all kinds would take part in the annual event, but with many working from home, it presents a unique opportunity for people to practice what they would do in the event of an earthquake while they’re home.
A video script released by the group putting on the event reads “Stop. This is an earthquake drill. Right now – drop, cover, and hold on. Drop to the ground immediately. Take cover by getting under a sturdy desk or table. Hold onto it until the shaking stops.”
With experts saying for years that Washington is due for a strong earthquake, knowing what to do when the ground starts shaking is important. Read more about the Shakeout: https://www.shakeout.org/washington/
