The Washington State Patrol released the identity of the man who was killed Friday morning on I-5 when he was struck by a semi truck on his motorcycle.

WSP Troopers and aid crews were dispatched to the collision just before 10:30 am Friday, on northbound I-5 at the on-ramp from Maytown. The man was pronounced deceased upon their arrival at the scene. He is identified as Royal T. Macias, 29, of Olympia.
The semi truck was travelling in the second-from-the-right lane (lane two of four) when the motorcyclist across cut the gore point on the on-ramp and cut in front of the semi. The semi struck the motorcycle, a 2001 Honda CBR600.
It is unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the collision. A next-of-kin notification was completed by the Thurston County Coroner’s Office on Friday.
Trooper Ryan Burke, the Public Information Officer for Pierce and Thurston Counties, originally said on Twitter that Troopers were investigating this as a felony hit-and-run case. He later said that this wasn’t the case anymore, and Troopers had determined that only one semi was involved in the collision, not two as previously thought.
