A Thurston County Sheriff’s Deputy is in serious condition at St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia after she was stabbed while on scene of a disturbance in the Nisqually Pines area just outside of Yelm.
Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 16900 block of Holly St SE just after 8:00 pm Friday. The reporting party said there was a disturbance at the home of their elderly friend, and didn’t have any additional details.
Around two minutes after the first arriving deputy got on scene, she called out shots fired, and that she had been stabbed in the neck, according to scanner traffic. The deputy shot the suspect and seriously wounded him.
Additional deputies and officers from the Yelm Police Department arrived on scene and began rendering aid to the injured deputy and suspect. The deputy, a female in her 30’s, was transported to St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia, where she is said to be in serious, but stable condition.
The suspect, a male in his early 40’s, was transported to Yelm Middle School where he was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. According to scanner traffic, the suspect is Ronald Clayton, who was recently featured on Washington’s Most Wanted.
Clayton allegedly cut off his GPS tracker around 1:40 PM Friday near the Walmart at 20307 Mountain Hwy E. In Spanaway, according to David Rose of Washington’s Most Wanted. He is a Level III Sex Offender and is a convicted rapist.

This incident will be investigated by the Region 3 Critical Incident Investigation Team, which is made up of investigators from several local jurisdictions. The lead agency on this investigation will be the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, and TCSO will have no part in the investigation.
