A man was arrested Tuesday morning after he crashed a stolen car into a school bus with children on board south of Olympia.

The Olympia School District bus was stopped on Rich Rd SE near 60th Ave SE around 8:15 am waiting to make a left turn when the driver of the stolen car crossed the center line and struck the bus, according to charging documents.

When Deputies discovered the car was stolen, the driver was detained. A needle was found in his pocket. The man also appeared to be intoxicated, and TCSO Deputies obtained a search warrant for his blood. After arriving at the hospital to have his blood drawn, he told hospital staff he had recently used heroin.

No students on the bus were injured. The bus was towed from the scene. Another school bus responded and finished transporting the students to Centennial Elementary School.

The man was booked into Thurston County Jail on suspicion of Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Driving under the Influence, and driving on a suspended license. He made his preliminary appearance in Thurston County Superior Court on Wednesday, and bail was set at $10,000.
