
A student was detained at River Ridge High School today after a search of his belongings revealed he was in possession of drugs and a loaded handgun.
According to an email sent by the school to parents, a staff member entered a restroom and observed alleged drug activity. School staff brought the student to the office where their belongings were searched and the drugs and handgun were found.
The student was immediately detained by the School Resource Officer and other responding Lacey Police officers. Due to the immediate response, the school did not need to go into lockdown, according to the message.
The school is working with police as they investigate.
