The Tenino Police Department announced the death of Chief Robert “Bob” Swain on Monday morning in a post on the department’s Facebook page. Swain, 60, died Sunday night of health complications, according to the department.

Chief Swain suffered a medical emergency in early April, which resulted in him crashing his police car into the side of Scotty B’s diner in Tenino. He was out of work for three months, and returned in July.

Earlier this month, Tenino Police announced that Chief Swain would retire as of September 15, 2020. He died just five days later.

Swain was a 40-year veteran of law enforcement. 22 of those years were spent at the Colorado Springs Police Department. He also spent time at other departments in Colorado and Oklahoma. He was hired as the Chief of Police in Tenino in 2017.
