High speed chase of hit and run suspect results in rollover

Nisqually Police apprehended a suspect on Tuesday who fled the scene of an accident, led officers on a high speed chase, and rolled his car over on SR 510 near Yelm.

Officers originally responded to the Nisqually Market Shell (also known as the Rez Mart) for a report of a collision in the drive thru. The calling party stated his vehicle was struck by a silver Toyota Corolla that had taken off on SR 510 towards Yelm. The victim was able to provide officers with a license plate.

Officers spotted the vehicle when it passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone on SR 510. When they attempted to pull it over near Southworth Elementary, the vehicle continued to accelerate, and speeds reached 90 mph. Officers confirmed the plate matched with that provided by the hit-and-run vicitm.

Yelm Police deployed stop sticks (spike strips) and there was a good spike on the driver side tires. The vehicle began swerving back and forth in both lanes, and the driver lost control. The vehicle left the road and hit a cement wall, bounced off the wall and flipped, and came to rest against a tree.

The male driver shattered the passenger side window and exited the vehicle, and refused commands to get on the ground. He was tased by multiple officers and taken to the ground.

The male suspect was transported to Capital Medical Center to be evaluated before being booked into the Thurston County Jail on charges of Eluding a Police Vehicle and Hit and Run Attended.

SWAT team responds when Tumwater domestic assault suspect barricades himself in home

The Thurston County SWAT Team responded to a home in Tumwater on Wednesday morning when a suspect who officers were attempting to arrest for felony domestic assault refused to exit his home and barricaded himself inside.

Tumwater officers were dispatched to the residence, in the 2400 block of Callaway Ln SW, just after midnight Wednesday morning. The suspect’s wife advised 911 dispatchers that her husband picked her up and choked her during an argument. She also told dispatchers that he had been drinking and has guns in the home, according to probable cause statements filed in court.

Officers arrived to find the victim parked in her car down the street. The victim told officers that her husband had choked her hard enough to restrict airflow and held her down. Officers attempted to contact the male at the home but nobody answered the door, and he did not answer his phone.

Officers on scene contacted the on-call prosecutor, who told them to get a search warrant and enter the home, since Washington state law requires that domestic violence assault suspects be arrested, if the assault occurred within the last four hours.

A search warrant was granted just before 3:00 am, and the judge found probable cause to arrest the male suspect for Assault 2nd Degree, a felony, since he had strangled the victim.

A negotiator responded to the scene, and the suspect told them something to the effect of “if you come in to get me I will arm myself”, so the SWAT team was dispatched to take over the situation.

The SWAT team deployed a Noise/Flash Diversionary Device (NFDD), and the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail for Assault 2nd Degree DV, Assault 4th Degree DV, and Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Violence, since he withheld the victim’s phone from her after she voiced her intention to call 911.

As of this writing (Thursday afternoon), the male suspect appears to have been released from jail, likely on bail or bond.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was stabbed in the neck a by convicted rapist and registered sex offender in the Nisqually Pines area of Yelm has returned home, according to a Facebook post by Yelm City Councilmember Joe DePinto.

The deputy was called around 8:00 pm on Friday night to a home on Holly St SE in the Pines neighborhood in Yelm for a report of a suspicious circumstance. When she attempted contact with the male suspect, not knowing about his history and wanted status, he stabbed her in the neck. She shot him multiple times.

Detectives have completed the investigation into an officer-involved shooting that killed Portland shooting suspect Michael Reinoehl in September near Lacey.

Reinoehl was wanted for the murder of Aaron Danielson, a vocal supporter of then-President Donald Trump. The killing occurred on August 29th, 2020 during a clash of two protest groups. A 2nd Degree Murder warrant for Reinoehl’s arrest was issued out of Multnomah County Circuit Court.

On September 3rd, Members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force received information that Reinoehl was at an address in the 7600 block of 3rd Ave SE in Lacey and they went to the address in an attempt to apprehend him. While conducting surveillance, officers spotted Reinoehl and attempted to take him into custody, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, who investigated the incident.

When officers with the task force attempted to take him into custody, he refused to comply with instructions to surrender, and was armed with a .380 pistol and reached for it. This was followed by an exchange of gunfire, which Reinoehl initiated from inside his vehicle, according to witness statements provided to TCSO.

Reinoehl was shot and killed by officers at the scene. The pistol was found in his possession, and a spent casing that matched the pistol was found inside of his vehicle, according to investigators.

The investigation was completed on March 30th, 2021 and forwarded to the Thurston County Prosecutor’s Office for review per state law.
